The Bengals have waived 28-year old PR/KR Quan Crosby.  Crosby played in all 16 games (0 starts) for the Bengals last year and he caught 2 passes for 16 yards (8.0 avg).  He also returned 30 punts for 225 yards (7.5 avg) and 3 kickoffs for 44 yards (14.7 avg) last year.  Crosby played in 32 games (0 starts) in his first two years with the Bengals and he caught 6 passes for 71 yards (11.8 ypc).  He also returned 70 punts for 699 yards (10.0 avg) and 16 kickoffs for 283 yards (17.7 avg) for the Bengals.  The Bengals might miss him on punt returns a little bit, but that’s about it.

The Bengals have waived 24-year old TE Chase Coffman.  Coffman played in 6 games (0 starts) for the Bengals last year and he caught 3 passes for 30 yards (10.0 avg).  He has a hard time staying healthy and the Bengals are set up well at TE for the 2011 season and beyond.  That has made Coffman expendable.

The Cincinnati Bengals claim C/G Mike McGlynn off waivers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Bengals News,Front Page,General Bengals Talk by admin on Monday 5 September 2011 at 2:05 pm

The Bengals have claimed 26-year old C/G Mike McGlynn off waivers from the Eagles.  He played in 16 games (14 starts) for the Eagles last year.  He has now played in 19 games (14 starts) in his first three years in the NFL.  This was another solid pickup for the Bengals as he could replace Bobbie Williams at guard while he’s suspended.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Bengals News,Front Page,General Bengals Talk by admin on Monday 5 September 2011 at 2:02 pm

The Bengals have claimed 24-year old TE Mickey Shuler off waivers from the Dolphins.  Shuler played in 6 games (2 starts) for the Dolphins as a rookie last year and he caught 2 passes for 44 yards (22.0 avg).  Shuler will likely be getting most of his P.T. on running plays for the Bengals.  This was a good pickup.

UPDATE:  (9/5/2011) – Mickey Shuler has flunked his physical which has voided his waiver claim.

The Bengals have released 27-year old CB Jonathan Wade and 24-year old CB Brandon Ghee.  Wade played in 4 games for the Bengals last year and he had 14 tackles, 2 passes defensed and 1 tackle for a loss.  Wade has now played in 59 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 111 tackles, 2 interceptions, 11 passes defensed and 4 tackles for a loss.  Brandon Ghee played in 6 games as a rookie last year for the Bengals and he had 9 tackles.  If the Bengals miss either of these guys in 2011, the secondary is in deep trouble.

The NFL suspends RG Bobbie Williams of the Cincinnati Bengals

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Bengals News,Front Page,General Bengals Talk by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 4:54 pm

The NFL has suspended 34-year old starting right guard Bobbie Williams for the first four games of the 2011 season as he has tested positive for performance enhancing drugs.  Williams played in 16 games (all starts) for the Bengals last year.  He has played in 109 games (all starts) in his first 7 years for the Bengals.  This is a huge blow to the Bengals with the 2011 season ready to begin next Sunday.

The Bengals will be without 25-year old LB Keith Rivers for the next six weeks after wrist surgery.  Rivers played in 15 games for the Bengals last year and he had 77 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 2 passes defensed.  He has now played in 35 games in his first three years with the Bengals and he has 186 tackles, 9 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 5 passes defensed and 2 interceptions.  This is going to hurt the Bengals as Rivers is a pretty solid linebacker.

The Bengals have placed 27-year old CB Adam “Pacman” Jones on the PUP list due to neck surgery and he will miss at least the first six games of the 2011 season.  Jones played in 5 games for the Bengals last year and he had 14 tackles, 3 passes defensed, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble and 2 fumble recoveries (one returned for a TD).  He also returned 5 punts for 33 yards (6.6 avg) and 7 kickoffs for 134 yards (19.1 avg) last year for the Bengals.  The Bengals are going to miss Jones, as he got his career back on the right path on the field last year.

The Bengals have acquired 28-year old cornerback Kelly Jennings from the Seahawks for 24-year old DT Clinton McDonald.  Jennings played in 14 games for the Seahawks last year and he had 40 tackles, 13 passes defensed and 1 interception.  He has now played in 78 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has 208 tackles, 2 interceptions, 48 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries and 1 tackle for a loss.  Jennings will be the new nickel back for the Bengals going forward.  Clinton McDonald played in 8 games as a rookie for the Bengals last year and he had 4 tackles.  This was a solid deal for the Bengals.

The Cincinnati Bengals waive Jordan Palmer

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Bengals News,Front Page,General Bengals Talk,Leaving Town by admin on Saturday 27 August 2011 at 8:40 pm

The Cincinnati Bengals have waived 27-year old QB Jordan Palmer.  Palmer played in 4 games (0 starts) in his three years with the Bengals and he completed 10 of 15 passes (66.7%) for 59 yards with 0 TD passes and 2 INTs (34.4 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 1 time for 4 yards for the Bengals.  You just knew that Palmer wasn’t going to make the team in 2011.  Not with his brother demanding a trade and promising to retire if he didn’t get his wish.  Owner Mike Brown has played hardball with Carson Palmer so far and I see no reason to think that’s going to change any time soon.  Let’s face the facts here though, Jordan Palmer was only on the Bengals to appease his brother…..because he is a horrible QB.
