Bengals vs. Patriots

Blogged under Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 29 September 2006 at 11:10 am

The Patriots really need a win bad as they haven’t looked good all season.  The Bengals look to continue rolling.

Look for the Patriots to come out running the football against the Bengals.  Corey Dillon (169 yards) and Laurence Maroney (169 yards) will attack the soft middle of the Bengals defense (113.3 yards allowed rushing per game).  If the Patriots establish the running game, look for Brady to take a couple of shots deep.  Brady will also try to spread the ball around and find a mis-match he can exploit.

The Bengals will attempt to pound Rudi Johnson (288 yards rushing) at the interior of the Patriots defense.  Carson Palmer will then run play-action and try to go deep to his wide array of great WRs.

This game will be a changing of the guard in the AFC, as the Bengals are gonna drop the hammer on the Patriots!

Odell Thurman’s year in jeopardy after bone-head is arrested

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 26 September 2006 at 11:59 am

Odell Thurman was arrested for a DUI early Monday morning.  He is expected to be suspended for the rest of the year by the NFL soon.  Thurman said the only reason he was driving was because teammates Chris Henry and Reggie McNeal (the car’s owner) both had more to drink than he had.  Chris Henry threw up out the window while the police had the car stopped.

Don’t the Bengals pay these guys enough money to afford a cab?

Rich Braham’s injury worse than first thought

Starting center Rich Braham was thought to have a deep bone bruise.  It was discovered that he actually has a fracture in his left leg and will miss at least six more weeks.

Opportunistic Bengals exact revenge 28-20

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 25 September 2006 at 2:06 am

The Bengals got their revenge on the field as they gave the Steelers enough rope to hang themselves.  The Steelers pounded the Bengals running the ball, and then decided to throw the ball and “Gentle Ben” kept throwing it to the Bengals who picked off three of his awful passes.  The Steelers ran the ball 38 times for 170 yards (4.5 ypc).  The Bengals allowed “Gentle Ben” to complete 18 of 39 passes for 195 net yards thru the air.

Carson Palmer was a little jittery in the first half, but looked like a surgeon slicing and dicing the Steeler secondary in the second half.  Palmer completed 18 of 26 passes for 193 yards with 4 TDs and 2 INT.  Rudi Johnson found it tough to run against the Steelers, carrying the ball 19 times for 47 yards.  RB Kenny Watson had 3 carries for 35 yards.  WR TJ Houshmandzadeh caught 9 passes for 94 yards and 2 TDs.  Chris Henry caught 5 passes for 69 yards and 2 TDs.  Chad Johnson only caught 1 pass for 11 yards.

The Bengals sent a message loud and clear Sunday……there’s a new sheriff in town…….and it’s the Bengals!

The Bengals’ back-up receivers shine

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Friday 22 September 2006 at 4:55 pm

Chris Henry and Kelley Washington have really stepped up to fill the void at wide-out due to the injury to TJ Houshmandzadeh.  Henry has caught 6 passes for 108 yards and Kelley Washington has caught 6 passes for 87 yards and a TD.  With Houshmandzadeh back, the Bengals can run 4 good receivers at the same time and the Steelers can’t handle that.

Bengals vs. Steelers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Wednesday 20 September 2006 at 12:01 pm

This should be a good football game between teams that really hate each other.  The Bengals owe the Steelers something after they took a cheap shot at Carson Palmer in the playoffs.  I’m not so sure the Steelers would have made it out of the Jungle if Palmer wasn’t injured.

The Bengals are looking great on offense so far this year.  Look for the Bengals to pound RB Rudi Johnson (241 yds., 3 TDs) at the interior of the Steelers’ defense.  Soon as they soften them up, it will be bombs away!  WRs Chad Johnson, TJ Houshmandzadeh, Chris Henry and Kelley Washington will be too much for the Steelers secondary to handle.

If Ben Roethlisberger thought last Monday was tough, wait until this week!  The Bengals have a ball-hawking secondary (3 INT) and a good pass rush (7 sacks).  The Steelers have to get back to running Willie Parker to set up the passing game.  TE Heath Miller and WR Hines Ward must step up if the Steelers are to win this game.  Ward has only 7 catches for 82 yards this season.  Heath Miller had a great game against Miami, but was nowhere to be found against Jacksonville.

I like the Cats to get their revenge at Heinz Field Sunday!

Bengals win battle Sunday, but may lose war

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Tuesday 19 September 2006 at 11:15 am

The Bengals beat the Browns Sunday, but the Browns administered a brutal beating to alot of players on the Bengals that could affect their season.  LB David Pollack broke his neck on Sunday and is out for the season!  Starting center Rich Braham is out for this week with a deep knee bruise, Eric Ghiaciuc will start in his place.  Starting safety Dexter Jackson is out for a couple of weeks with an injured ankle, he will be replaced by Kevin Kaesviharn.  WR/KR Tab Perry left Sunday’s game with an injured hip.  Finally, WR Chad Johnson got destroyed by free safety Brian Russell and suffered a concussion and injured shoulder….he says he’ll be ok for the Steelers game on Sunday.

Bengals carve up Browns 34-17

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 18 September 2006 at 12:25 pm

This game was never close. The Battle of Ohio was dominated again by the Cincinnati Bengals! Carson Palmer had a great game completing 24 of 40 passes (60%) for 352 yards with 2 TDs and 2 INT. If you didn’t know that Palmer had a bad wheel, you would have never figured it out watching this game as he looked great out there on the field. RB Rudi Johnson was a monster against the Browns (he usually is) running the ball 26 times for 145 yards (5.6 ypc) and 2 TDs. Chad Johnson caught 6 passes for 78 yards (13.0 avg) and a TD. The story of the game was how well Chris Henry and Kelley Washington played in TJ Houshmandzadeh’s spot. Henry caught 5 passes for 113 yards (22.6 avg) and Kelley Washington caught 5 passes for 77 yards (15.4 avg) and a TD.

The Bengals defense took it to the Browns. The Bengals took the Browns out of their running game holding them to 57 yards on 20 carries (2.9 ypc). Then the Bengals forced Charlie Frye into making mistakes as they intercepted 2 of his passes. The Bengals allowed 244 net yards passing (60.6% completions), but most of the yardage came with the outcome of the game well in hand.
